Workday and Upcoming Events

Fellow Ikes-

  • Tonight is the last opportunity to renew memberships. We have not processed online renewals received after Jan 19th. Everyone else should have received their cards.
  • The clubhouse remodel is coming along. The focus of the upcoming workday will be cleanup and moving everything out in preparation for painting and flooring.
  • We have 2 speakers scheduled for out next meeting. Zach Smith, NRV Trout Unlimited President, will talk about the Mayfly Program (fishermen mentoring foster children) and TU initiatives, and Marvin Johnson, local representative of Project Healing Waters, discussing fishing as a rehabilitative process for veterans with disabilities. Please join us in some talks that can lead to great future partnerships.
  • Our fishing rodeo is rapidly approaching. We haven’t set the date yet, but it will be end of April or beginning of May. Paul Spaulding is this years coordinator. He’d like to add an archery setup, a BB gun/pellet gun range, a fish cleaning demo booth (demos only, people can clean their own fish!), a knot-tying demo booth, and an outdoor cooking station to our normal program. We need volunteers to solicit donations for our raffles and help staffing. Contact myself or Paul.
  • We will be hosting Montgomery County Public Schools Stormwater Days April 4-5. This is a signature event for the club. Help is needed for their fishing rod casting station and trout run station. Contact me if you are able to help.
  • From Scott Woodrum – The action pistol group is going to hold a “mini-match” on Sunday, March 5th at 2:00 PM.  This is a great way to get introduced to the shooting sport.  The cost is $2 per shooter. There will be five or six stages with a total round count of approximately 90 rounds. The entire match is held in the second pistol bay and will last about two hours.  You do not have to shoot all the stages either.  If you only want to shoot two stages that’s okay too.The club received a new motion activated target this week and the action pistol group needs your help breaking it in.  Pre-register at the link below.  You will need to set up a free account with practiscore (very simple): https://practiscore.com/3-5-2023-mini-match-christiansburg-iwl/register Feel free to reach to Scott Woodrum at 540-641-3688 should have any questions.
  • From Phillip Sweet – We are excited about the upcoming 2023 NRV Friends of NRA banquet on Saturday, March 11th at the Omni Place in Fairlawn.  Here is a copy of the flyer and the table packages.  If you are interested in underwriting any of the event items or simply donating please feel free to let us know.  Donations are tax deductible. We are still selling the 2023 Friends of NRA raffle calendars at E.S. Ramey Firearms in Fairlawn.  The calendars are $50 and there are 300 chances to win a firearm beginning on March 1st.  We have 8 calendars left to sell, so stop by the shop and get one soon. You may pay for dinner tickets or purchase a table package at E.S. Ramey Firearms or online at https://www.friendsofnra.org/events/event-details?eventId=59819.  We do have children tickets available this year too. Teens 13-17 are only $20 and children up to 12 years old are free.  Please let us know if you are bringing a child 12 years old or younger so that we can save room for them and not over book the space.

Regards,
Mike Brosius
